Female Genital Mutilation in England and Wales

This chart shows the estimated number of women living with female genital mutilation in England and Wales, 2015, by age group. The UK Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, spoke at a conference on the 15th November focused in part on addressing high rates of female genital mutilation and announced a public consultation into mandatory reporting for forced marriage. The Crown Prosecution Service notes in their Violence Against Women and Girls Report 2017-18 that since 2010 their manual records show 36 referrals of FGM to the service, 3 of which went to trial, all of which resulted in acquittal.
